Tips regarding current labor laws. |
| The State of California enacted an Interim Wage Order - 2000 effective March 1, 2000, that you may not have heard of. It is important to know about this change in the current labor laws. Here are a few items that we thought were the most important aspects of the change. Go to the State of California’s web site to get the full text of the notice. That web site is:
http://www.dir.ca.gov/IWC/wageorderindustries.htm. Change in overtime hours and pay. (Quotes from the Wage Order) “Hours and Days of Work” “The number of hours worked in a day by covered employees without overtime compensation is 8 hours. The number of hours worked in a week by covered employees without overtime compensation is 40 hours. The number of days worked consecutively by covered employees in any workweek without overtime compensation is 6 days.” “Daily Overtime Pay” “Overtime is paid at the rate of 1 1/2 times the regular rate of pay for every hour worked after the completion of 8 hours worked at the regular rate of pay in 1 workday. Overtime is paid at the rate of double the regular rate of pay for every hour worked after the completion of 12 hours worked in 1 workday.” “Weekly Overtime Pay” “Overtime is paid at the rate of 1 1/2 times the regular rate of pay for every hour worked after the completion of 40 hours worked at the regular rate of pay in 1 workweek.” One change that was enacted was the overtime pay requirement on a daily workday. These are just a few items in this order. Visit the page to get all the data. |
